Watch our April 24, 2022 Worship service. It includes singing, announcements, special music, and a sermon by Sohrab Ramtin from Mark 12:13-17.
The hymns we sang this morning were “‘Abba, Father,’ We Approach Thee,” “Lord, Thou Hast Searched Me,” “Standing on the Promises,” and our closing hymn “My Savior First of All.“ our special music was a course from I Peter chapter 1 and 2, “To You Who Believe He is Precious.“
Dr. Sohrab Ramtin top from Mark 12:13-17 on the Lord Jesus Christ being questioned about paying taxes to Caeser. Sohrab noted that the Pharisees and Herodians were enemies, but they came together against Christ. He applied this to enemies who are against the truth of God will unite against the truth of God. He pointed out that the Pharisees would have the theological insight to try to trap Jesus and the Herodian’s would have the political connections to get the Lord in trouble.
Sohrab towards the conclusion said “truth is profound but also simple“ in referring to Jesus‘s response to them. He noted that the God had instituted government, so we should obey them unless they tell us to go against God. He also pointed out that the coins had Caesar’s images on them, but we are in the image of God. The implication is we should give ourselves to God as we should give Caesar’s coins to Caesar.
Tom Cantor also taught on this last week from the parallel passage in the Gospel of Matthew. His teaching was for our adult Sunday school. You can watch it Here.
