worship service

Watch our October 24, 2021 Worship service, sermon by Sohrab Ramtin

Watch our October 24, 2021  Worship service, including hymn singing, announcements, and a sermon by Dr. Sohrab Ramtin.

Sohrab preached from Mark 8:27-33. He covered the two confessions of the Apostle Peter and “Peter’s greatest commendation and greatest condemnation.” He noted that all falsehood is a blend of good and bad that looks nice on the surface. He also pointed out how the apostles ended up understanding the person of Christ at the time but not all of his plan. They were looking for his glory but not his suffering before that. There were many other good points he made.

First hymn “We Worship There”

Second hymn “I’ll Tell the World That I’m a Christian”

Third hymn “ The Banner of the Cross

Closing hymn “I Will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord“

Sunday Hymns – Sunlight, Sunlight

Here is an upbeat song we sang last Sunday. It tells the story of someone being saved, living through the hard times with the Lord, the good times with God, journeying in this life, and looking forward to being with the Lord.

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of the darkness, hath shined in our hearts.” II Corinthians 4:6

Sunlight, Sunlight
Words by Judson W. Van DeVenter & music by Winfred S. Weeden

1. I wandered in the shades of night,
Till Jesus came to me,
And with the sunlight of His love
Bid all my darkness flee.

Chorus:
Sunlight, sunlight in my soul today,
Sunlight, sunlight all along the way;
Since the Savior found me
Took away my sin,
I have had the sunlight of his love within.

2. Though clouds may gather in the sky,
And billows round me roll,
However dark the world may be,
I’ve sunlight in my soul.

Chorus

3. While walking in the light of God,
I sweet communion find;
O press with holy vigor on,
And leave the world behind.

Chorus

4. I cross the wide-extended fields,
I journey o’er the plain,
And in the sunlight of His love
I reap the golden grain.

Chorus

5. Soon I shall see Him as He is,
The light that came to me,
Behold the brightness of his face,
Throughout eternity.

Chorus

Sunday Hymns – Holy, Holy, Holy

Last Sunday, for the first hymn we sang “Holy, Holy, Holy.” This hymn, especially verse three, is drawn from Revelation chapter 4 (verse 4, 8-10). The call of “Holy, Holy, Holy” was also cried by the seraphim in Isaiah 6:3. The author, Reginald Heber, seems to connect this call with the three persons of the Trinity in the first and last verse. This song was a good way to start the worship service.

Holy, Holy, Holy
words by Reginald Heber & music by John Bacchus Dykes

  1. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed trinity!
  2. Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
    casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.
  3. Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye of sinfulness thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
perfect in pow’r, in love, and purity.
  4. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth, and sky, and sea.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed trinity!
