the glory of God

Sunday Hymns – Glory to His Name

“Glory to His Name” was one of the hymns we sang last Sunday. The verses of this hymn follow the sequence of (verse 1) getting saved, (verse 2) being saved, (verse 3) the new life, and (verse 4) calling others to salvation. The chorus then calls out “Glory to His Name!” for each of these.

In a sermon a couple weeks ago, Tom Cantor said, “The glory of God is the explanation of who God is.” And who God is, is expressed in what he does. God is good, so he does good. God is love, so he loves. God is just, so he does justly.

Glory to His Name

Words by Elijah a. Hoffman & music by John H. Stockton

Down at the cross where my Savior died,
Down where for cleansing from sin I cried,
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to His Name!

Chorus:
Glory to His Name, glory to His Name:
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to His Name!

I am so wondrously saved from sin,
Jesus so sweetly abides within;
There at the cross where He took me in;
Glory to His Name!

Chorus

Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin,
I am so glad I have entered in;
There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean;
Glory to His Name!

Chorus

Come to this fountain so rich and sweet,
Cast thy poor soul at the Savior’s feet;
Plunge in today, and be made complete;
Glory to His Name!

Chorus
